Class Descriptions
We teach yoga primarily in the Iyengar tradition, a style characterized by skillful attention to detail in every pose, use of props, and focus on body alignment. Your teacher will mindfully help you optimize your practice.
Basics
Enjoy improved muscle tone, flexibility and a deeper sense of well-being as you learn the fundamentals in this beginner's class. In our Basics class, we introduce you to the principles of body alignment and mindful breath in the basic postures. This class is suitable for students who have never tried yoga before and also for beginners who want to enhance their understanding of the fundamentals.
Basics Plus
In our Basics Plus class, you will increase your understanding of the principles of alignment while continuing to build strength and flexibility. Classes will include basic and slightly more challenging poses and will incorporate modifications and props as needed to ensure a safe yoga experience for all levels of beginners, regardless of previous yoga experience.
Mixed Level
This class is designed for a variety of levels from beginners to more advanced students. Modifications are introduced so that you can work comfortably at your own level.
Intermediate/Advanced
For students with a solid foundation in the basics who want to work and play more deeply in their yoga practice. Stamina, strength, flexibility and mental focus will be challenged.
Restorative Yoga
In our restorative class you will learn postures, using props for support, to facilitate deep relaxation. Restorative yoga is meant to rejuvenate, replenish and bring the body back into balance. Deceptively simple poses may be held for several minutes. Restorative yoga is the perfect cure for stress.
Yoga and Meditation
In the yogic tradition, movement and breath are used to help clear the path for successful meditation. In this class you will access yoga postures to ease your body and calm your mind for a successful meditation practice. We will focus on developing witness consciousness, following the breath and repeating mantra for your personal practice.
TGIF
Enjoy classic and restorative poses to release tension from your body and restore your energy for the weekend. At the conclusion of class we will dine at a local restaurant and build a sense of community among our fellow yogini’s. Dining is optional and isn’t included in the class fees.
Tai Chi
You will be introduced to techniques for mindfulness, including sitting and standing meditation, with the main emphasis on the long form of Yang style Tai Chi. A discussion of the principles behind Tai Chi will also be included in every class to help you bring their practice into everyday living. No special equipment is required for this class, but you should wear loose, comfortable clothing and flat-soled shoes. |
